Things that almost made me…
Whiling away the day practicing my single-space-after-a-period skills…
Mrs. Palaver and I spent a wonderful weekend celebrating her birthday, taking in glorious food, glorious weather and glorious music from my man-crush, the Punch Brothers. The Mountain Palaver is beginning a new feature this week entitled “Things that almost made me…” (inspired by the DadWagon section “Things that almost made me cry,”).
Things that almost made me…
Pee my pants. This little snippet is Punch Bros. front man Chris Thile playing Bach’s Concerto for Violin in C Major on the mandolin. Note, this was written for two violins. I hate myself just a little more every time I hear this guy play.
Poke myself. The flu. Who unleashed this damn disease and why can’t I avoid it. Oh, you say there’s a preventative shot one can get that reduces one’s chances of contracting the flu? The operative word in that sentence is SHOT! A Palaver Challenge: Suggest more appropriate ways for ingesting the flu vaccine. I’ll get you started – Afluria Box Wine.
Question the future of music. The Grammy Awards. What happened to the age of the interwebs popularizing rarely-heard artists and protecting us all from the poor judgment of record company executives? #BizModelFail [Full Disclosure: I own Miranda Lambert and Lady Antebellum and occasionally enjoy listening to them, but I'm not handing out any trophies.]
Smile. The pleasure Mrs. Palaver derived from receiving her birthday gift… a mother lode of socks! Eat your heart out ladies. I love a woman who can be pleased by getting socks for her birthday. In my defense, she asked for socks and she received many pairs with substantial variety. However, it has occurred to me that this small example may explain why it took me 35 years to find a wife. We’ll get into that another time.
Palaver’s Plugs
In today’s version of Palaver’s Plugs, I point you to this very interesting article on the downfall of the once-invincible Irish economy. PS – I’m moving to Ireland and starting a bank!
